I just found out this heartbreaking fact from my Nepal Lonely Planet…

“Though elephants are able to reach 80 years of age, their life spans are determined by dentition.  Molars are replaced as they wear down , but only up to six times.  When the final set is worn, the animal dies of starvation”

How fucking horrible is this?  What kind of sick, twisted world do we live in?
